With the spring run of fish finally over they are starting to settle into the “summer pattern” as we say on the Cape. Before I get into what has been going on lately I must first tell you about a great striper tournament. My fishing buddy ( Dave Hodsdon) and I decided to fish in the Cape Cod 5000 striper and bluefish tournament this year. It’s a slot limit tourney and that is why I decided to join this year. When you can only weigh in two fish and they have to be between 28″ & 36″ (stripers) it makes for a real challenging tournament. We started out around 3:30 am on June 30 and decided to head to Billingsgate Shoal. It was rough going with 3-4′rs and not much bait for action. So around 8:00 we headed to the east end of the canal and we were in on some busting stripers the minute we pulled in. We had two fish over the slot limit and then had fun for an hour during the blitz trying to find the elusive 35-36″ fish that would be perfect for the scales. Tons of fish, but they were mainly larger fish and that will not help in this tourney. We managed to best half the field of 40 boats with a totall weight of around 20lbs. It was a great time and Todd puts on a great event.
